You

You spoke a word into my longing
Dropped an apple of gold into hands I didn’t know were reaching

I tasted it, smooth as surprised honey
And began to weep for all the fruitless days

I couldn’t see your eyes, but I believed what you told me,
Believed as one beloved,
Whose next breath depended on your creation ex nihillo

Brooding over my darkness,
Your deep called to mine,
Broke open a pulsing, salty song on my windswept dunes,
Turned them into wild rose sheaves rejoicing

And with your single word
You
Gave me back a voice
